KDL was founded in 1962 as an electro-mechanical contractor primarily serving the defence and aerospace industries. Services offered included machining, sheet metal fabrication and wiring assembly.
In 1977 it became part of the AB Electronics group where it expanded its activities into electronic design and the manufacture of robotic products whilst still remaining primarily an electro-mechanical contractor serving defence and aerospace.
In 1988 KDL was acquired in a management buy-out and since then the Company has expanded both its customer base and its range of activity. Whilst maintaining strong links with the defence and aerospace industry a much higher proportion of the Company's activities are now commercial. KDL has also vigorously moved into contract electronics manufacture. In 1995 KDL installed its first surface mount line and in the same year also acquired the electronic contracting business and assets of Cumana, a Guildford-based electronics company. These developments greatly extended KDL's capabilities and services whilst the addition of Cumana's personnel to the KDL team added further wide experience of electronic assembly.
KDL relocated from its Camberley base in 1999; it is now based in a modern manufacturing facility in Aldershot.
Today KDL is an experienced contracting company offering a wide range of services to a broad mix of customers. The Company has the skill, qualifications, experience and facilities to handle jobs ranging from individual components and assemblies through finished, fully tested final assemblies to the control of complex, turnkey "design and manufacture" projects. With modern plant and equipment and advanced manufacturing control systems allied to long experience in the provision of contract manufacturing solutions KDL is confidently able to offer a high class service to its existing and future customers.
